Montgomery County, Kansas

Montgomery County is located in southern Kansas. It is named for Richard Montgomery, a major general in the Continental Army.
The seat is Independence, while the largest city is Coffeyville. The Verdigris River runs through both towns.
It is bordered by Wilson, Neosho, Labette, Chautauqua and Elk Counties in Kansas, as well as Nowata and Washington Counties in Oklahoma.
